Jesse Tree Advent Project

The Christmas season is fast approaching; the Women’s Ministry will celebrate the season of Advent and the coming of Jesus at Christmas with a Jesse Tree.

The Jesse Tree project takes place December 1 through 25. It’s similar to an advent calendar, but it’s more about tracing the history of the coming of Jesus.

The tree gets its name from Jesse, the father of David. The first day’s scripture is Isaiah 11:1-2 – “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord.” This branch came in the form of a babe, and through the scriptures for each ornament, you can see God weaving the stories into place to ready the world for the coming Messiah.

To prepare for this project we will need an assortment of 25 ornaments to represent the history of the coming of Jesus. These ornaments maybe homemade or bought. We would like for all church members to have a part in this project. On Tuesday, October 16 at 6:00 pm there will be a planning meeting and for everyone to select their ornaments and to receive more information about the project.

Please contact Cathy Farquhar for more information.

We tend to think getting an answer from God is the main reason we pray. The main reason we pray is to be praying.

How do you handle the issues you face each day as you confront life in the real world? Do you find yourself in God’s Word, prayerfully seeking God’s guidance and help? Or do you immediately turn to others to tell you what to do?

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when a crisis arises, I find myself asking others to pray before I’ve talked to God about the situation myself. I’ve come to realize that God wants me to read His Word and talk to Him first. Actually He wants me to talk to Him always.
We constantly carry on a personal conversation with ourselves. We evaluate every situation. We review conversations with others over and over in our minds. We carry on an internal discussion about life and our evaluation of it.
I believe God wants us to invite Him into that conversation. That’s what I believe Paul means when he tells the Thessalonians to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess.5:17). God never gives us a command that we can’t fulfill. So instead of talking to yourself, why not start talking with God?
