There was a man who died at the age of 63 without ever having had a job. He spent his entire adult life in college. During those years he acquired so many academic degrees that they looked like alphabet behind his name.

Why did he spend his entire life in college? When he was a child, a wealthy relative died and named him beneficiary in his will. It stated that he was to be given enough money to support him, every year as long as he was in school. And it was to be discontinued, when he had completed his education.

The man met the terms of the will, but by remaining in school indefinitely he turned a technicality into a steady income for life – his benefactor never intended. Unfortunately, he spent thousands of hours listening to professors and reading books, but never doing anything with his learning.   He acquired more and more knowledge but didn’t put it into practice.

The book of James says, “Be doers of the Word and not hearers only.” If we read the Bible or listen as it is taught, but fail to put to work, what we have learned, we are as bad as that man with his string of degrees. His education was of not practical benefit to anyone.

Hearing the Word of God, must be matched by doing.

2018 Texas Missions & the Mary Hill Davis Offering

Once a year, Texas Baptists reflect on all God is doing in us and through us to reach our state for His glory and for His good purposes. Once a year, we gather an offering for Texas missions. Once a year, we join hands in prayer with other Texas Baptists and form a prayer circle around our state for the work – and the workers- who SPEAK OUT every day about the difference Jesus can make in their lives. September 9-16 is the designated week of prayer. Our church goal is $4,000.00.

The Back-pack Buddy program is an outreach project being organized through our Collinsville schools. A back-pack of nutritional foods is sent home on Fridays for students in need over the weekend. FBC will be contributing supplies to the school once a month to help with this project. This a partial list: fruit cups, pudding cups, individual juices, small cans of ravioli, spaghetti Os, soups, meats, crackers, little Debbie snacks, fruit snacks. For a complete list, check your Sunday school classes or pick up one in the office. If you have any questions please contact Marilyn Head.

Children’s church began last month. This is for our 4 to 7 years old children. Children need to sit with their parent/parents. The children will be dismissed when the choir is dismissed. There will be attendants at the back to take the children to the classroom. You may pick up your children following the service, in the 1st & 2nd grade Sunday school classroom.
