It was December of 1903, that after many attempts, the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were successful in getting their “flying machine” off the ground and into the air, at Kitty Hawk.  Thrilled over the accomplishment, they telegraphed this message to their sister Katherine: “We have actually flown 120 feet.  We will be home for Christmas.”  Katherine hurried to the editor of the local newspaper and showed him the message.  He glanced at it and said, “How nice.  The boys will be home for Christmas.”  He totally missed the big news.  For the first time in history, man had flown.

When we read the Bible story about the Magi, we need to remember that the larger part of the story does not revolve around the Star that they followed, but that they had found the Savior of the world.

Now, as we prepare for another Christmas, I pray that we don’t miss the true reason for our celebration.  It is not about the trees, lights, parties, presents, and family coming home for Christmas.  It is the celebration of the Good News; that the Savior of the world has come!

Bro. Jerry

This a partial list: fruit cups, pudding cups, individual juices, small cans of ravioli, spaghetti Os, soups, meats, crackers, little Debbie snacks, fruit snacks. For a complete list, check your Sunday school classes or pick up one in the office. If you have any questions please contact Marilyn Head.

 Senior Adult News

As usual, our plan is no Game Day for November and December (Game Day will start again the third Wednesday in January), but there is activity planned. We are still planning to go out for a Christmas meal (recognize birthdays) and a show. We are investigating attending a musical presentation by several Sherman Church choirs; The Christmas Story, instead of going to the Finley Theater. More to follow on this as information becomes available. This early outing will also free up the rest of the month for local church and family gatherings. It is still early but don’t forget May 8-11 2018 for the seniors’ trip to Branson where we will see Sampson and several other shows.
