We don’t like to talk about our own personal sin, but when are forced into it, we have a way of minimizing that sin, in order to present ourselves as more acceptable to the world.  Let me examine some of the ways we minimize sin.

Defending: When confronted with our sin, we explain it away, talk about our successes, or justify our decisions.  As a result, we rarely have conversations about difficult things in our lives.

Pretending: We strive to keep up appearances, in order to maintain a respectable image.  My behavior is driven, in some degree, by what other people think of me.  As a result, not many people know the real me.

Hiding:  We conceal as much about our lives, especially the bad stuff.  We are closed and have no transparency. This is different than pretending, because it is more about shame.  We don’t think people will really accept us.

Blaming: We are quick to blame others for our sin or our circumstances.  We have a difficult time owning our sin.  There is an element of pride that says that it is not my fault.  We fear rejection if we are found out.

Minimizing: We downplay circumstances in our lives, as if they are normal, or not that bad.  As a result, things don’t often get the deserved attention, and sins have a way of mounting up, in our lives.

Exaggerating: I tend to think and talk more highly of myself than I ought. As a result, things good and bad get more attention than they deserve.

What do you tend to do with your sin?  The scriptural message regarding sin is found in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”    Confession means to say the same thing about our sin that God says.  We are to own up to the reality of sin in our lives, without the temptation to minimize it, so that we seem respectable in this world.

I don’t care so much about appearances.  I desire the peace and joy that comes in fellowshipping with the Father, when I am right with Him.

WOMEN’S Ministry Corner

Jesse Tree Advent Project

The Christmas season is fast approaching; the Women’s Ministry will celebrate the season of Advent and the coming of Jesus at Christmas with a Jesse Tree.

The Jesse Tree project takes place December 1 through 25. It’s similar to an advent calendar, but it’s more about tracing the history of the coming of Jesus.

The tree gets its name from Jesse, the father of David. The first day’s scripture is Isaiah 11:1-2 – “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord.” This branch came in the form of a babe, and through the scriptures for each ornament, you can see God weaving the stories into place to ready the world for the coming Messiah.

To prepare for this project we will need an assortment of 25 ornaments to represent the history of the coming of Jesus. These ornaments maybe homemade or bought. We would like for all church members to have a part in this project. On Tuesday, October 16 at 6:00 pm there will be a planning meeting and for everyone to select their ornaments and to receive more information about the project.

Please contact Cathy Farquhar for more information.

 Special Thank you………

Dear Collinsville Friends,
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I have finished all treatments and am doing well.
Thank you, God Bless You All. Mary Ann Cox

The Women’s Ministry would like to extend a grateful Thank you to all that help with the Ladies Conference on the 22. We were blessed with over 90 attending, on a cold rainy day.
This conference could not have been a success without the prayers and support from our church members and staff. We so appreciate those who were willing to give your time and went that extra mile to have our church prepared for the conference.  We are so blessed with the many gifts God has given to our church members.
A special Thank you to our Pastor for his awesome Valet service!
Thank you and Blessing to all
Women’s Ministry Committee,

Cathy, Misty, Janice Shawn & Suzanne
