Our Story

The History of our Congregation

1864

Rev. Noah Miller, Sr. made his way from North Carolina to Spring Creek, one mile east of what is now Collinsville. He had twelve children and was distressed because there was no Baptist church nearby. Calling together several families of the same faith and order, on the third Saturday in March 1866, he organized in his home a Baptist Church. The neighbors called this church “The Pleasant Home Baptist Church.”

The congregation had grown and managed to secure funds and with the labor donated, the First Baptist Church building was completed. During this time, young men attending the Seminary at Fort Worth would travel the distance twice a month to preach for the congregation.

Building repairs left the church with a debt to be paid. W.E. Miller, the son of Rev. Noah Miller, Sr., donated monies to retire the church debt and before long a building fund was started to help build a new building. Once again, W.E. Miller stepped in to assist the church. It was during this time that the church’s name was changed. In April 1946 the funds had been raised to begin to build and in August 1948, the first service was held in the Miller Memorial Baptist Church.

The church continued to grow and in the early 1980’s discussion began for the new building which would expand the ministry opportunities of Miller Memorial Baptist Church. During this time, the congregation voted to return the church to the name First Baptist Church of Collinsville. Land was purchased, funds were raised and building-plans were selected. On April 12,1987, First Baptist Church of Collinsville celebrated the completion of the new building with a full house for the dedication service.

Today the eyes of the congregation are pointed to the future. As a church, we aim to love those in our community with the same love Christ has given to us. The work of our church is aimed at directing others towards the Savior in the hopes that they will encounter the one true God and be transformed by His gracious love for them. Through all we do, say, and preach, we pray that we will shine the light of Christ to all those we encounter.
